I spent twelve years living in Katherine when I was growing up and Oscar (my baby) and I recently made the trip back. The rest of the clan stayed home here with my husband and it was a breeze only having one person to look after for a change.

I travelled as lightly as possible, I didn’t take a pram (I don’t like them much anyway) and Oscar spent most of his time in a backpack.

Oscar was a great traveller and it was an inspiring, eye opening trip. A big contrast visually and culturally from my current home in regional Victoria. It was already heating up and was a 37 degree average during my stay.

I have always been fascinated by old stuff and at the moment I am drawn to mining and it’s significance in the history of our country. I spent a day in Pine Creek, (between Katherine and Darwin) checking out the old gold mine and its various abandoned equipment. I find the aesthetics of this stuff visually beautiful and interesting. Aside from its past practical functions. Now no longer useful it sits around rusting away.

Anyhow, I am home now, enjoying my family, my lush lawn and my vegie patch. Next week will be another adventure, as I am off to Broken Hill. It is so good in this break from painting, to be refuelling my brain with new material!

I can’t wait to share my next project with you all…

Cheers
