I heard Pip (from Meet Me At Mikes), speak at the big hearted business conference in May. I then met her briefly while we waited in a queue together. She is pretty inspiring and has worked so hard to be successful doing her creative stuff. The advice she gave while on stage that stuck with me most was this; “Be useful” and “Don’t be a tosser”, i.e, think you are better than anyone else. Great advice I thought.
Anyhow, Pip recently did a “taking stock” post, answering this list of questions. She encouraged her readers to cut and paste a duplicate list and do one as well. I have. Here is my list (and a list for you to copy and paste at the bottom of the page). If you do one, put it on Facebook maybe, and tag me, and Pip (find her at “meet me at mikes”). Time is going by so fast and it’s nice to capture the moments somehow. Thanks Pip for starting this. Here goes;
Making : I just wrapped up an exhibition (may) so I am trying to make a book come together.
Cooking :lamb and veg sausage rolls (from last nights roast).
Drinking :I am pregnant, so lots of herbal tea.
Reading: Charles Dickens short stories, (everything else is to hard to get into).
Wanting: a wall to paint a mural on (I am impatient).
Looking: at caravans on ebay.
Playing: mind games with myself.
Deciding: what to do first tomorrow.
Wishing: I had a wealthy patron to fund a crazy venture.
Enjoying: My crazy, beautiful big family as they go through life with me.
Waiting: to receive an important email.
Liking: being me right now.
Wondering: If I will ever make money from my art.
Loving: being loved.
Pondering: How I got this far.
Considering: That there is no real formula for success in life, you have to make your own.
Watching: when I can, missed episodes of vikings on my laptop, (I may call my child ragnor if he is a boy!). I am not really a tv fan, but this has me intrigued.
Hoping: I can go to Detroit with the family next year.
Marvelling: On the fact I am blessed enough to get one more beautiful child in my life.
Needing: a hair dryer for my hair after after I swim laps, (first world problem I know).
Smelling: the cool crisp winter air in the morning when I run to the pen to collect eggs.
Wearing: the least ugly combinations of pregnancy clothes I can.. (not often succeeding).
Following: the rise of Kara Rosenlund on instagram, (and the takeover by militants, of the second biggest city in Iraq).
Noticing: That my oldest daughter won’t be living at home for much longer (year 12 this year).
Knowing: That I don’t know enough about anything.
Thinking: That I can’t wait to paint again.
Feeling: Overwhelmed by possibilities.
Admiring: the determination of two year olds.
Sorting: my tax receipts for the past year.
Buying: birthday presents
Getting: excited about my next painting.
Bookmarking: articles and videos about Detroit.
Disliking: how quick days go by.
Opening: up to new ways of working and thinking.
Giggling: about the cats my dad posts on his Facebook page.
Feeling: tired yet satisfied.
Snacking: trying not to because I get fat so easily when I am pregnant. When I do I love making a sugar free chocolate slice recipe from the IQS book by Sarah Wilson. Pigging out on the real stuff gives me a headache.
Coveting: a new post baby wardrobe via Collete Werdon (yes first world issues again).
Wishing: I could see my brothers more.. (they live in the top half of Aus).
Helping: My family run smoothly every day.
Hearing: an audiobook on the life of Mick Jagger. (I can’t get no… satisfaction).
So there you go..
Thats my list, I wonder what it will look like this time next year.. My life is pretty good, and I have much to be grateful for. Below is a list for you to copy and paste. Once again thank you Pip..
