These pieces have been a long time coming.

Postcards in Stone continues an idea that began last year in India. The postcard as concept, the idea that objects and art can carry moments in time, memory and meaning across distance has stayed with me since travelling to Delhi for the India Art Fair and visiting Jantar Mantar, the ancient Mughal observatory where cosmic knowledge is encoded in stone geometry. Ideas travel. Objects hold what words cannot always reach.

Stone feels like the most timeless and ageless way to do this. It is the oldest material humans have ever reached for to mark, remember and transmit. These 19 hand-carved Grampians/Gariwerd sandstone maquettes and 7 paintings are each a postcard from this place, this moment, this practice. Each one unique, carrying the geometric language and symbols that have been the vocabulary of my work for thirty years, now finding expression in a material I can find at my feet.

These are objects to live with. Talismans. Carriers of memory, narrative and geometry. The paintings place them within my visual world. They make perfect gifts, to yourself or for someone significant. To mark time, to remember.

This painting is ready hang, however are not framed, I am happy to recommend a framer or can arrange framing directly through my own framer, please get in touch to discuss.

I am so happy to see these go out in the world, your purchases will directly support my upcoming residency in Portugal where I will further develop my abilities to work with stone. In this way you become part of the greater journey of my practice.

May you be blessed in your blessing of me.

  • I was obsessed with horses all of my young life and rode the wildest ones in the Northern Territory, so they are ever entwined with my psyche and I feel a great connection to them still. For me they are metaphors for a full heart, freedom and movement. It makes sense for them to be increasingly making their way into my art.
