A new painting from me, inspired directly from a vivid and beautiful dream.

Over time I have learnt to work with my dreams, they being a way to access the liminal space that is the subconscious mind. It is in tthis space between the seen and the unseen, that I have had the most incredible lucid experiences. As well as informing my arts practice, dreams will often heavily influence my inner landscape, how I feel about things, which in turn I see has influenced the trajectory of my life.

Have you read Green Lights by Mathew McConaughey? Well he shares in it the many ways that dreams have shaped his life. When I read this book I felt relieved that I was not the only one literally following my dreams.

I have had dreams that have foretold pivotal life events, for example before loved ones have passed or significant people have come into my life, and more recently futuristic dreams on unfamiliar planets with alien like people. Dreams being oracles in this way.

The dream that this work came from, was a dream of the divine, of God, of the source of all love and life. In the dream I felt loved by all of creation in the purest sense of the word and I often revisit this dream in my solitude, a reminder I am never alone. I am forever held by an invisible field of love. In this way dreams are also often a source of comfort.

The palette of this painting and the nature of this particular dream world was one of the factors that initiated the use of sandstone as a medium this year, more to come with this.

This feels like a good Sunday morning painting, questions re the origin of all, of love, never too far from my mind..
